Etape Caledonia, Scotland
Leave a commentA ride in bonny Scotland. One of, if the, first closed road events in the UK
It’s 130Km around Lock Rannoch and Loch Tummel and over to Pitlochry. A hilly part of the country, pulling just shy of 2,000m of climb. Not for the feint hearted. And there is a pretty stern cut off to allow the road closure to work. To quote the event organisers
“The Etape Caledonia is an 81 mile cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads in the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire. To ensure that the roads are reopened to the schedule agreed with the authorities, participants will need to maintain an average speed of 13mph around the course. This gives at least 6h 15mins to reach the finishing line within the closure window. Even if you are unable to meet this average speed you can continue on open roads and complete the full circuit.”
